(02/17/2014)-Jim Lovewell sets new state record
Jim Lovewell said it was just a "regular, normal Friday night" when he showed up at Gardner Ten Pins on February 7th to bowl in the Friday Night Classic League, which happens to be the longest running scratch league in the state of Massachusetts.
Lovewell hammered away to the tune of 24 straight strikes to begin his night. That's right, a pair of perfect games.
The dream of a 900 series ended in the first frame of Lovewell''s third string where he made a spare and followed that up with 10 consecutive strikes before leaving the 4-6 split on his final ball of the night.
That gave Lovewell a 288 series in his third and final string and a spectacular 888 series, breaking the state record of 883 set back in April of 2003 by Mike Fabian at North Bowl in North Attleboro.
Lovewell's 888 also gave him the house record at GTP which had been set just two months prior by Mike Fortier in the same Friday night league. Fortier's 877 series bested the 869 turned in by Dave Umbrello in August of 2003.
Gardner Ten Pins is also the home of the women's state record of 826, first broken by Mary Marois in April of 2005 and then matched by Christina Lamoureaux in February of 2007.
